It works. If you do what virag suggests.
Summary:
Navigate to m.google.com/sync/iphone
Log in with the relevant account
Choose your device from the list
Select the calendars you wish to add
Go to settings > mail and calendars and turn off calendars for the account you are changing.
Turn calendars on again.
Job done.
Works for iPad too.
