The Psychologist – The shock of the old has a useful revisit of Milgram’s obedience to authority experiments (especially the electric shock one).

Things I hadn’t realised: the “subjects” (non-experimenters / non-actors) really agonised about giving what they though were life-threatening shocks, but often did give them; the experiment was done at a pace that could have affected what the “subjects” did (c.f. this piece on decision fatigue).
