First truly nice day in Hong Kong, and sadly our last one of holiday before we start work tomorrow.
So we’re up the peak, but not in Bubba Gump…

Last time I had lunch in HK was early 1980s at a wonderful Victorian hotel. We sat on the verandah overlooking the sea (?Resources Bay). It was all very colonial. The next day, literally, they knocked this brilliant building down to build some characterless high rise. Unfortunately I had a very upset stomach and could only nibble at the food while my friend had a fantastic lunch. Looks like there are not too many old buildings left from your picture. Mike
Very few old buildings left, but they are starting to realise that heritage matters, so there are fewer demolitions now, and more old features listed as monuments.
The hotel: it might have been Repulse Bay? That’s the other side of the island to this view. The history seems to fit the bill and there are views of the old hotel. Still a nice beach, but mostly crazy high rises, as you can see. I think the “building with a hole” they mention is on the site of the old Repulse Bay Hotel.
Shame about the dicky stomach: we’ve had nothing but excellent food here from day one.

Tom, Thanks for that. It must have been Repulse Bay, the pictures are just how I remember it. I have to say I have had wonderful food in HK and mainland China though the food they gave us for lunch when we were teaching in Shanghai was indescribable. I still have a banquet menu from a fantastic restaurant we were taken to back then.
Joan’s thesis finished and about to be submitted!!!
One day; Xiao Ming another class …. a sudden “rush”(fart) a cry, sitting next to a small U.S. scolded and said: Xiao-Ming Ah ~ if you could not make a noise.
