Sadly, both Wiffy and I have become rather converted to Kindles. Why sadly? Because I love books very much, but don’t think I’m going to be buying many more physical ones (just as I haven’t bought a CD for years).
Some reasons:
- We left for our vacation earlier in the year with a wine case filled with books in the back of the car. This had to be significantly reduced before we went to Crete. One Kindle each: job done. We can both read books either of us has bought (synced to the same account).
- I couldn’t have got through Matterhorn on the tube, it is just so huge. Fine by the pool, but much easier on a Kindle.
- Reading is good, in some lighting better than books (the words feel like they are leaping into your brain).
I totally agree with all of these points (especially having just been bequeathed Matterhorn by a colleague) but BOOKCASES! How much harder is it becoming to judge someone when you walk into their house now that their CDs, DVDs and (soon) books are not arrayed for examination?! I think we need some sort of media ownership listing in every house. I really do judge by the covers.
