Another great show (The Rake’s Progress) at Glyndebourne. Singing, orchestra, direction, staging, set and lighting all first class. Some good tunes and lots of laughs too? Perfect.
And a catered picnic, which while not quite the spirit, means we have no washing up to do.
It’s one of their best productions, glad you enjoyed it. Not so sure about the official picnics though. We’re off to see Don G today.
I can certainly see why they have kept The Rake in the repertoire.
On picnics, we have a new connection to the lady who runs them, and she did us more than proud.
Lovely to come out at the long interval to find someone has laid out your table for you, and then clears it away afterwards. Zero stress and excellent food.
Have you seen it, at the Royal Opera House, directed by Robert Lepage? I’ve seen it in Belgium a few years ago and it was just amazing! Your post makes me want to go to the opera!
I didn’t see the ROH / Lepage one, but the Glyndebourne production is brilliant. And you should definitely go to the opera: always great fun.
I’m not quite sure but I think I saw a video of the Glyndebourne production at uni. I’m on the Eno and Roh websites and will hopefully buy some tickets very soon.
And the Glyndebourne performance is on at Somerset House by video link later
in August.

Oh no, I’ll be in Belgium for a festival, but another kind of music…!
