Hmm. The list of signatories to this Early Day Motion praising homeopathy might be a good reason not to vote for my local MP in the soon-to-be-announced election. His voting record against the government is pretty strong, so maybe he’s a stealth Tory after all?
No. Jeremy is as good an MP as you could hope for – his voting record is a reflection of the fact that the current government is Tory, not that he is. Forgive him his homoeopathic tendencies – he’s otherwise completely sound.
Chris,
You make a fair point. I guess I’m just hardening my position on wilful ignorance of science: it’s why I couldn’t vote green ever again.
Such an important election, so few viable options.
Science is always being updated and rewritten. Just because it hasn’t reached a point where it can understand how homeopathy works, doesn’t mean it isn’t valid. I suspect those who condemn homeopathy are the ones who have never tried it.
It is right that homeopathy should be available, it is about patient choice and plenty of people choose to use it.
Just because you support science, don’t be so arrogant as to think the rest of us are stupid.
I agree that homeopathy can be as effective as a placebo. (See UK Parliament research on the issue.) We shouldn’t use it because it is more expensive than a sugar pill and shows no likelihood of ever being more effective than placebo.
