Interesting thought on the The Nutt Sack Affair (part 493): part of the defence has been that science cannot help with policy, only provide evidence to policy makers. Hmm. The scientific method can see if policy is effective or not, whether types of policy are effective or not. If a government seems set to roll out a policy or in a way that is unlikely to be effective, should the relevant advisory board say so or not?
