More depressing reading from bad science. The thing that gets my goat at the moment is reporting numbers without context and trend (7,000 bad things happening could be really bad, or it could be part of a 25m cohort in which case it isn’t too bad) or large percentage rises without base numbers and trend (200% rise could be terrible, but if it is three to nine, it isn’t so bad; also if it were twelve two years ago, it isn’t much of a rise at all).

Why don’t we ask these kinds of questions?
