Perhaps a start would be moving away from empty or misleading definitions of ‘freedom.’
In the US, particularly, the narrative of freedom has overwhelmingly been about the freedom to do, say etc. – a damaging and one sided perspective that masks a great number of ills.
A more holistic definition would also include the freedom for things not to be done to you.
Ben: That’s a very good point. I think the laws on freedom do try to cover both sides you mention, but the public debate very rarely does.
