hori hori

I want a (an?) hori hori (dig-dig) tool. But I can’t find one in the UK. Time to order one from Amazon?

Cross on government connect

Mike Cross takes an interesting perspective on the government connect launch in Local solution to the identity crisis. His thesis: if we get a near-universal spread of IDs for LA transactions, will we need a national identity card?

CBI doesn’t believe in Gershon

The CBI launches in to the fray with a survey that says business doesn’t believe in Gershon. Stating that using IT to improve efficiency doesn’t seem likely to work is an odd one, in that Gershon is absolutely not about IT. Curious.

Mind Mapping

An introduction to Mind Mapping using trees. It’s a good habit to get into even if you don’t use the software.

Nice page with lots of PC Mag reviews collected together.

PC Mag’s Digital Camera Blockbuster gives my Canon PowerShot S70 the thumbs up for a compact. Always nice to know you’ve made a good choice.

avast! 4 antivirus

Avast 4 is free antivirus software for home users. Looks neat.

EssentialPIM

Essential PIM claims it is absolutely free. It looks like they’re planning to use home users as a massive beta and then leverage enterprise sales on the back of it. Worth a try, perhaps?

Boot disk store

You can never have too many DOS boot disks for those new hard drive setup needs.

Automated Home

Automated Home appears to have some of the answers I need about its core subject. How to control Sky in three different rooms?

Some more answers here.

Ultimate head torch

Dodge would love one of these for his barbequeing activities.

Supernova

Cracking picture of the remains of a supernova.

GM is dead?

that GM is dead for now.

Farm-scale trials of GM crops are unique to Britain and represent the first time that scientists have evaluated the environmental impact of a new farming practice before it has been introduced

a) haven’t we already got a lot of GM food here anyway? b) the growing might be “dangerous” but is the eating and c) how sad is it that it is already an electioneering issue - someone should note all of the “pledges” made by politicians in the run up to an election and see how many actually happen. Small to vanishingly small numbers, I’d hazard.

Advanced System Building 301

If you are serious about building your own windows system here’s how to do it.

Quadriplegic controls PC by mind power alone

Quadriplegic controls PC by mind power alone. Amazing when you think about it (boom boom). What a nation of couch potatoes this could breed!

USB-based programs

Some nice thoughts about Programs Designed For USB Drives. I must put a few of these on my key, so that I can avoid messing up other people’s computers when I’m using them…
