Getting nearer an eBook

Hi-tech tome takes on paperbacks looks at HPs new eBook prototype. I like the touch strip navigation concept, but the screen still looks too computer-like. And 1cm thick seems too much to me, despite many books being much thicker.

Strong argument against Shuttle design

“Not Culture but Perhaps a Cult”, Op Ed on NASA and the Shuttle by Homer Hickam argues that the current Shuttle design is pretty dumb in placing the spaceplane right in the middle of the launch stack. I must say, it seems pretty telling to me.

Jon Udell and blog searching

XPath search of Jon’s Radio sees Jon Udell making the most of structured markup. As he says, there is no easy way to create any of this in normal blog publishing tools. It’s a shame because it rocks! I can probably hack some of this stuff in Macro Express, but it won’t be pretty. The source article is here.

One hell of a thunderstorm

Scary picture of an easyJet plane that flew into a thunderstorm. And promptly turned back!

Postcode finder

The accessible version of the Royal Mail’s Postcode Finder doesn’t have the silly 20 search restriction. And is easier on the eyes. Thanks be!

Lemmings in DHTML

DHTML Lemmings by crisp. Just too much time on their hands! A clear sign that I’m getting older and worse at computer games - I couldn’t do the level I started at on tricky, and I used to be able to finish Lemmings on Mayhem. Ach well.

Accessible Hutton

The Hutton Inquiry - Accessible version removes some of the nasty usability of the original. It’s a great thing that the enquiry is so open. I hope this is the model for future public enquiries.

Middle lane morons

Caroline would love Middle Lane Morons.

Marriage

The Marriage::Scott and Helens Wedding showcases what we didn’t do. Thankfully. A slightly noir mirror site is also available.

Disposable email addresses

Mailinator( is a neat spin on the disposable email address conundrum. It has caused me to think: we have to legislate against spam if we want to rebuild email as a medium.

C4 film search improved

I didn’t realise that Channel 4 had a comprehenisve film search option - much needed now that thisislondon is pay only. However, it is utterly unusable, so there is animproved version kindly provided by a consultancy.
